Other artists include Molly Santa Cruz, Dottie Wilson, Edie Schneider and Margaret Wiggin. A person can identify which artists drew which images by looking at the initials in front of the number of the stamp. Many of the images were drawn in 1948, more than 59 years ago by Marge Busby who is the mother of Margaret Wiggin, the owner of Stamps Galore. At that time, Marge's son had quit high school six weeks before he was to graduate and had joined the Marine Corps. Talk of the Korean Conflict becoming the Korean War was rampant and the love and fears of a mother inspired Marge to draw images on envelopes that she mailed to her son four or five times a week. When he was discharged from the service, he gave the envelopes back to his mother who, in turn, gave them to her daughter in the early 1990's. Margaret was delighted to have them and, by then, had started rubber stamping as a hobby. When she showed the mail art collection to a few friends, they told her she should lock them in a safe and start a rubber stamp company with them so ... Stamps Galore was born! Marge Busby drew for the company from 1995 to 2000. At the age of 90, Marge, who at the time was legally blind, drew an ink bottle and pen image that will be released in a future supplement. Jesse Atencio who has drawn most of the Indian art images which range from Mimbreno of the Southwest to Tlingit of the Northwest was raised in New Mexico and is now a resident of Alaska. Many of the lighthearted images are Jesse's creations, also.Catalog #3 has over 1000 images and was last updated May 2003. PROJECT TUBFRIM - Support solicited from Rubber Stampers by Margaret
"Project Tubfrim" was started by Margaret Wiggin in September of 2000. The goal of the project was to introduce "Rubber Stampers" to TUBFRIM in hopes that "Rubber Stampers" would want to save used postage stamps and telephone cards for the organization. Today, the goal remains the same. With the advent of the Internet, fax machines, lower telephone rates, meter mail machines in homes, meter strips from U.S. post offices, etc., postage stamps are not being used as much as in the past. In that "Rubber Stampers" often request stamps when they mail items, I felt it was a "last stand" group on which I could call to aid an organization that could very well disappear as our world evolves. From my experiences as a vendor at Rubber Stamp Shows, I felt that most "Rubber Stampers" would help Tubfrim if they only knew about the organization so "Project Tubfrim" was born.Tubfrim, a non-profit organization, sells used postage stamps and used telephone cards by the ton to be resold to philatelists (postage stamp collectors). The profits from these sales benefit handicapped children in Norway and help eradicate tuberculosis around the world.
To make the project fun for all concerned, Stamps Galore gave drawing prizes of unmounted rubber monthly from the beginning of the project until 12-31-01. To view winners of Project Tubfrim drawings, Click here. I am pleased to report that the project will continue; however, prizes will not be part of the project. Those who want to participate in the project should send their donations of used postage stamps/telephone cards to either
